We have been traveling for 9 months know - that's the time it takes to grow a baby in the womb and birth it - and my gosh can we relate to the analogy of 'birthing our dream' initially our dream was to travel Australia... And we thought this would take about 12 months, so that was the time frame we had in mind. We got to victoria in December 2011 and we didn't leave there until February this year - we spent 3 months there (even though that's where both Sam and I were born and raised). So our story begun to change from "yeah we will travel for 12 months..." to "as long as it takes!" if you haven't yet read my guest blog post on New Life On The Road's blog [ < link] then I suggest you do. In the blog post I explain about how we educate our kids (or how they do it themselves! ;-) to how it all really started (being dead 'broke') and also I imply many times that "Travel is Journey not a destination" even though most people travel just to get away from it all... For us it's a lifestyle that we wouldn't trade for anything! (at this stage! ;-)

If you haven't yet seen us talk about our 6 month update on YouTube - with a guest appearance - then you can watch it below.
Where are we?

If you follow our Facebook page you will notice that we have been posting a lot of photos of the stunning Flinders Ranges in South Aus. We have been captivated by this great land and we can fairly say that it's the most amazing place we have been - thus far! Where we are staying -Beltana Station Homestead - It's beyond limits of Adelaide ... 6 hours to be exact. The closest major town is 2 hours away and the space here feels incredible! There is no ocean, infact not much water at all except for some creek beds and natural springs - few and far between. There is 1/2 million acres with thousand of sheep, cattle, goats and alpacas. This place was NOT where we thought we would want to stay for very long... I mean what for? We couldn't figure out why residents here loved it so much... The land is barren... Yes the ranges are beautiful but beauty can be found anywhere right?!

Our hearts have been captured!
This land has captured our hearts and has drawn us to a place which we did not expect to stay a long time!

Always expect the unexpected if anything at all!

At first we resisted the thought of staying on the station for a while. We were doing a work exchange for accommodation (they are willing like that!) and Sam was enjoying it while I was pluggin away at my biz! It was harmonious and we were happy to be here. As a few weeks went on and Darwin was on our minds for the winter we were trying to make it happen. We tried to plan our trip up there giving ourselves 4 weeks. We thought that it would be better to spend the winter in a warmer place... That things would be much more manageable. We TRIED to plan but blocks would come up like money, travel time and working in with my building business plans, we needed new tires for the rig, we needed more fuel cams, we needed more supplies... Things just kept coming up! When we finally gave into the fact that we were NOT that inspired to go we said the words (which were hard to say by the way as we felt we had something to live up to) "why don't we stay here for a few months!?" it's like something lit in our hearts even though we felt that this was against who we were as the Freedom Family! But thinking and feeling through it some more we realised that "yes! We are the freedom family! And we live from that place in our hearts where we can CHOOSE what and where we want we want to be... There are no limits and we should always expected the unexpected!" this is what changed for us... This allowed our minds to be even more open to new opportunities and magical possibilities!

Since Making the quote above ring in our hearts and minds we have had the opportunity for Sam to live out one of his dreams of working as a station hand! His working full time here on the station -which can be a little challenging for me trying to run a biz too - but we make it work for us!
Picture
Sam heading out on his first Muster
The kids love it here! They have enough space to be themselves and play in the dirt, with baby animals and down at our favourite creek spot and other kids to play with!

Charlotte & Tate - Happy souls!
What we have noticed the most about this place is how much we have personally changed since opening ourselves up to the magical-ness and healing and spiritual energy of this indigenous land! Soooooo much has changed for us in very deep and meaningful ways! I just don't know where to begin to tell our stories!? Maybe another time!?

FEELING the land....
For me... Miracles have taken place here. I have been manifesting the most amazing things and people AND experiences in my life that just blow my own mind! My dream of going to Cancun in Mexico and meeting with my soul sister for a good ol' time has come to fruit-ation! I WON a retreat to Cancun [link]! I'll be going at end of September this year - without my family which will be an interesting challenge! I'll also be going to Texas and Chicago while I'm that way to meet with some really special people in my life! <3 I'll be gone for 10 days -scary, but I'm up for the challenge! You can watch my video entry and announcement video HERE

About 2 months ago I was dreaming of some office space to get some of my important work done. I was getting frustrated that I had lack of Rhythm and focus time... I was - wait for it..... Dreaming of living in a house again!!!! Feeling into it more it was not a house I wanted but a space to feel creative and to have some focus time.. That's what was really important! Being here at Beltana has created that space for me. I feel creative and more determined than when we were moving every 1 to 2 weeks! I've got a business plan in place to create eBooks, eCourses, personalised coaching program's, they are all coming into fruit while being here as I have that extra time as space to feel 'at home' and just get my shit done!

Even though there is not much here, per-se,  there are more possibilities at my door step! My dream - of about 2 weeks ago - of having the feeling that other women really need to feel what I've felt here and have their lives transform too is coming into my reality! My friend and I along with Beltana station and a camel trekking one man show are organising a 'Women's Spiritual Retreat' here in the outback - there is no better place! You can stay up to date and not miss a thing by signing up to our newsletter! >

Soooo it seems we are going to be here for a while :-)))))) which feels VERY good to us! We are thinking close to the end of year to make away across to Vic again and get on the 'Spirit of Tasmania' and spend some of the summer in Tasmania - which is just a little bit dreamy for us ;-) since we wanted to do it this year. All in good timing! And you know what.... We are NOT in any rush - this is a lifestyle for us! And if you're sitting there reading this thinking "I would give anything for that kind of lifestyle" then I can tell you that you're in the right place! The unique thing about us - the freedom family - is that we are so passionate about our lives that amongst all our passion is our desire to help people like you who also want freedom! Over the next few weeks we will be re-vamping our Freedom Family break- free program in a way that will make it absolutely life changing for you and your family as well as that we want to offer a simple eBook that will help ignite your fire and get your arse in your freedom travel  life : eBook will be on 'How to make money while you travel' offering really practical steps to take! We are serious about US living from freedom and we are dead keen to see you live your life in the Same way! And if you're reading our blog and have been following us for a while then I'm guessing you're craving that freedom! It's time for you to stop reading and start doing! Don't ya recon!?

So living on the road seems all Rosie from a glance but like with anything in life you just don't really know what it's like until you experience it for yourself!

I remember before we begun to travel 6 months ago (can you believe it!) that I slightly feared weather... I feared living in a canvas thin walls as I imagined that they wouldn't protect like a solid house structure would. But that fear soon disappeared as I was so determined to live the life of travel and figured we could just follow the good weather.

BUT whatever the weather there will always be challenges. Weather is unpredictable and I actually like this about it. I love that it can be rainy one day and sunny the next. I lie in bed at night wondering what the next day will be like... I like that element of surprise!

Considering the rest of my family - particularly our kids can make me nervous in combination with unpredictable weather. I know I can keep myself safe but what about 2 other lives!

Recently (couple of months ago) we had a full on experience with wind of 61km winds. Now that doesn't sound like much but I can assure you it was full on and it seemed to get worse each day out of the 7 days we were staying on the coast of Victoria. We could have moved but in this instance we felt stuck for the first time in a travels. We were waiting on our next lot of income to come through - this felt like the longest week ever!

Living with....
Through this experience with wind we soon had to learn very quickly that we had to accept it not reject it. When we felt high strung things like massive hole in the side of our tent happened....
After a meltdown and lots of cursing and wishing that a house with solid walls would pop up in front of us we felt that we needed to be smart... To go with the wind not against it, learn to live with it rather than complain and resist it and wish for something better. Amongst the vet restless nights with our tent moving in, out up and down we still managed to live with it and find a new appreciation for it
Picture
Living with The Crazy wind!

As I write this post we are experiencing consistent rain. At first we resisted it... Thinking we can't wait to get away from the 'bad weather! What is 'bad' weather anyhow? Some consider bad weather as too much humidity or rainy or windy or coldness... This helped us to reconsider so called bad weather. We figured that we need to 'bad' to make the good. Rain helps grass grow, sun feels nice when it kisses the skin, rain can feel refreshing like new beginnings, wind can feel high energy which can remind us to be settled in our own bodies... It all effects us and I personally think it helps us grow so much. We have learnt so many things from the weather - aka mother nature! We  have learnt that we can be one with it and adjust accordingly!
We often wonder how people native to the lands would cope with different weather... The answer is obvious... They adjust and accept whatever weather comes their way, they don't resist it, they respect it!

I'm listening late at night to a beautiful lil with creek trickling water through it... It's so calming and peaceful. The funny this is that people buy those fake water fountains in stores for this effect! I feel so blessed to be experiencing it now! Thank you rain! :-)
Picture
Lil Tranquil Creek flowing from rain

I love living the life we live! Not because it's easy but because in addicted to this great land! We have learnt so much from allowing ourselves to 'feel' places... Not just visit them. We are not the type just to 'see' places we would much rather feel places meaning that we open ourselves to new experiences and this affects our personal growth in a HUGE way. We are way different from 6 months ago that we are finding it hard to adjust to the 'new us' but we love it and wouldn't trade it for anything!

Get out there are begin to 'feeling' places with your family- you're life will change even if it's just day trips, it all makes a difference! Believe that!

Here's to your freedom!

We always try to find reasons to celebrate! Life can be a whole celebration…

We spent our last night in Warnabool Victoria, and as we walked along the beach we began talking about all the things that has happened for (and against) us over the last 3 months we have spent adventuring in Victoria.

Before we got to Warnabool we spent 4 nights at Mt Elephant near Hamilton. The $5 per night camp ground offered fabulous view of the lake and mountain which used to be a live volcano!
Picture

What is adventuring?

Our lives are packed full of adventures…. and let me explain what adventure actually is for us (and all travellers will agree):

IT'S
- challenges

- highs and lows

- laugher

- fun

- seeing the bright side of life

- turing challenges into changes

- Having $4 in your bank account

- Meltdowns

- Overwhelm

- Fabulous views

- breathing in fresh air

- Tears of joy

- Being grateful

- Making do with what you have

- Re-thinking

- Reflecting

- Sharing

- inspiring others

- Being Inspired

- Reapirs

- just to name a few…..

As I wrote those words I felt all those moments of different emotions…. People often think we have an easy life, But the truth is that it has being extremely challenging in more ways than one. This is not a holiday for us, this is our lifestyle…. but we wouldn't change it for anything.  All this helps us grow as people & a family unit… in 4 months we have grown personally so much that we have in a year being living a 'normal' life - INCREDIBLE!!!

The great thing about personal growth is that a lot of inspired ideas come with that and we have set some intentions for November THIS YEAR to hold something super special for you and your family which you're going to LOVE! So stayed tuned by singing up to our mailing list below
We celebrated our 3 months of 'adventures' with a BBQ, walk along the beach, dark chocolate & port while watching the stars twinkle in the clear sky

As we planned to travel from Killareney Beach (Warnabool) to near Portland we planned on staying at a a free camp ground called the 'Sawpit Campground' which the name alone doesn't  sound very appealing but after a few looks online at other people's experience it looks like fun!

When we arrive there we were all excited and as we drove in we look for the best spot to camp… we drove around a bit further then…… "OMG, is that guy naked!?" a guy in his 50-60's we completely comfortable walking around this camp ground naked. Now, don't get me wrong , I fully support 'naturalists' but when it's in a public place where it is classed a illegal it made me wonder. I was concerned about my kids safety… then something else happened…

As we drove around further wondering how we felt about the nudist… knowing that we 'accept' it but the 'what ifs' flooded our thoughts, we came across a lady that was camping by herself (not many people do that!) and there was a funny feel about it. She stopped us and told us about how her tent had a rip in it from the high winds… and everything in me was thinking NOT to help her (which is un-like me) but I knew Sam would feel that he HAD to.

We found a spot which we thought we would camp… I got a head ache instantly which is usually a cause of fear, so I knew something was up. We plodded around a bit and everything lead to us not being comfortable there so we both agreed that we felt 'weird' and that we should find somewhere else to camp.

Sam offered to help the lady fix her tent. I chatted to her while he did that and got some history form her… in a nut shell she is sad, lonely and un-sure of what life really means for her. We left soon after with a sigh of relief and an inner peace.

Our little Piece of Paradise

The other camping option (besides a caravan park) near Portland, Vic was

Fitzroy River' Camp grounds. Not entirely free ($5per night or $20/week) but worth the $$$ for great spot we had.
Picture
Our Little Piece Of Paradise right on the River
We were thrilled that we listened to our 'gut feeling' and went with this place instead. And interestingly enough we met a couple there that know of the lady that we helped at the sawpit and she is known for her drunken outrages all through the south side of Australia!  How interesting HUH!

GREAT Fishing!

Fisherman thrive on Fitzroy river and the beach that it leads into. It wasn't long after we arrive that we wet the line (Sam did) while I dipped into the (shallow) river. Sam dropped the line in then a bite… one fish…. dropped the line in again… another bite 2 fish…. all within 2 minutes! Fun!

Picture
Abundant with Fish!
The next few days consisted of fishing, walking through the shallow river to the golden beach and just BE-ing happy, running Zeus on the beach, playing in muddy puddles and experiencing a pink sunset.

The truth is…

We were warned about the high winds that Fitzroy River can get, but we thought that it really could't be that bad. The winds were pretty full on, we found it hard to sleep some nights due to the tent lifting and swaying…. there was un-certainly… The following day it was suggested that if we move the trailer around so the wind in behind us that would be better so we attempted to do that and while we were doing this (in the high winds) the wind uplifted the tent and reefed it over and it got caught on our boat rack (on the trailer) and….. RIIIIIPPPPPPP………… GASP!!!! OUr hearts sank…. we 'thought' that it was the end of our home for a bit…. I asked Sam to run for help while the was using my body weight to hold the tent down - which amazingly lifted my body and I flew for a few seconds!

Helped arrive! 3 men come to help us in the tradition of moving around to a better spot. They assured us that it's totally fixable
Picture
the hole in the side of our house
We did a temp fix until we could find a canvas repairer to fix it properly. The small moved we did was well worth it, we were much more sheltered and we had better sleep at night!

Campfire Goodi-ness

I must admit I'm just love playing with fire…. I mean I love to light them, cook with it and keep it flaming away!

My first recipe actually didn't require any cooking at all, they are called APPLE NACHOS- an all raw, fun, easy snack. Everybody loved this!
Picture
Apple Nacho's a Yummy Snack (or meal)
Of course with every fire there just has be be some traditional damper made. The past few times that we have done it we have done it in foil but then we got reminded by some fellow campers that you can do it on a stick - in fact this is the ONLY way I used to cook this when I was a kid camping with my family. After it's cooked we drizzled honey down the center..... YUM!
There is something very satisfying about building a fire, lighting it and using its natural energy to cook and keep you warm as well as add a fun atmosphere to camping!
Picture
Sam preparing the fire
Backed potatoes are a favourite of ours. I bake the potatoes in foil and place them in hot coals for about 45mins. After they are cooked I cut a hole in the top and scoop out all the potato into a bowl cook up some bacon with mushroom, peas & onion, mash it all in the potato (add some butter or milk if needed) and then put the mash back into the potato skin…. YUM!!!
For something different I tried sweet potato which was outstandingly yummy!

Picture
Sweet Potato Stuffed.. YUM!
While we were cursing around one of the local towns we found something unique (to us) and we just HAD to try it!

The can itself looks so cartoon like LOL… the taste was quite nice!

Have you ever tried this famous Duff beer?

From the Great Ocean Road we were hearing to the end of it - which is Warnabool - and we had planned to stay a week at Killarney Beach which is just past Warnabool (which is a lovely large township by the way!).

When we arrived at Killarney Beach Caravan Park we where like "what the….?" there was a cricket oval…. then a play ground…. then cravens…. all round the cricket oval…. A little confusing as we have never seen a park like this before!  So I guess from the confusion of "will this be a good place to stay" we began to feel a bit distributed because it wasn't the norm of a usual craven park… You know that feeling when something NEW pops into your experience and you weren't expecting it as suddenly you're all defensive - well that was us LOL.

A Constant struggle…. or not?

One of the things we often struggle with, with caravan parks is that their site JUST fit out whole camper trailer set up… in fact a lot of the times we 'over' by just a little, but we do our best to 'fit in' LOL. The funny thing is though is that it ALWAYS fits ;-)

The sites at Killarney looked too small for our whole set up - which made us more anxious, because if we could't stay here we needed to find somewhere else ASAP… which can also be an intense experience.
From Feeling Sh*ting to …. Oh F*ck!

Bad vibes seem to cause to make any situation about 10 times worse. a bag of Mixed emotions were going on… you know when one thing piles on another and before you know it you have a shitty situation!

Our trailer requires the annex come our from the back of the trailer so this means that if the park sites are not drive through we need to un-hitch the trailer and manually turn it around. In this case this is what we needed to do.

We were offer help by fellow campers to help push our 1.2 tone trailer around so the annex could face the road (mainly so we can keep an eye out for the kids). As we were turning (Me - tara- directing the front) I noticed some skinning…. I mentioned it to Sam, but he had the determination to keep going 'just to get it done' type thing… as we went the jockey wheel dug into the sand and i suggested to stop…we stopped but then tried to push the jockey wheel THROUGH the sand… which in the end we ended up with a bent jockey wheel which was unusable!
Picture
The Hole we Dug with our Jockey Wheel
There is ALWAYS help when you need it!

We took a breather for 10 mins just to 'think' about it (which isn't like me) but this time I felt there had to be a change of attitude to help change this situation. deeeeeeeeep breath….and "where's that beer!!!" ;-)

We needed help with this one… we needed emergency repair on our jockey wheel and out of all the tools we carry we didn't have the right one this time.

We asked for help from our new neighbour and he was more than willing and VERY handy (thanks Rob)!

Picture
After the Jockey Wheel was Fixed
After we decided to feel good to change our situation we began to enjoy our stay!

Pipi's, shell fish, butterfly shells…..

Killarney beach is ABUNDANT with Pipis (some people call them different I think it depends where you are from). Fellow campers would come back from the beach with bucket loads of them to either use for fish bait or cook up.

Picture
Shelling Pipi's
I learnt a wonderful and super easy receipe that makes them taste delicious!

Soy sauce garlic & worchshire sauce…. NUM! I'm not a big lover of sea food but I LOVED this!

Picture
Enjoying some Pipis
Fish n Chips!

Killarney beach is known for its good fishing so Sam was eager to 'wet a line' and catch something that we can eat. We love the idea of living off the land! Sam caught 2 snapper (YUM!) that he made into homemade fish and chips - PERFECT lunch!!!

An unexpected Guest

As the kids and I were walking to the beach to walk Zeus in the morning we heard a cat meow…. I thought that was strange….. I heard it again, it sounded more kitten like and like it really wanted someone to find it…. so I went seating in the beach scrub and found a 8 week old kitten…. obviously left there for someone to find and love. It was VERY cute & super friendly and the kids were thrilled to nurture something smaller them  themselves. It was really hungry so we fed it things we had, left over chicken - gulp! tin salmon - gulp! cows milk - gulp! mashed up dog food - gulp! - it WAS hungry!

To keep or not to keep was the question. It could have been totally possible to have a cat on the road - lots of people do it, but we felt it would require more time and effort which we are already trying to find that balance in our lives now. So we called up the RSPCA and decided to allow it the chance to have a home with another loving family.

Sometimes all you need is some fun in the sun!

We got a yummy 38 degree day on our last day at Killarney Beach. As the day went on we were all feeling overwhelmed again and then it occurred to us… "why don;t we go to the beach?" so we did, and it was the best decision ever (had to walk a whole 200m LOL) - we needed that separation from what was going on to the 'great outdoors'. I remember feeling like this when we lived in a hours too and KNOWING that we just HAD to get out to make everything feel better!

I wanted to share the importance of having time for yourself and MAKING this happen, So I made a video of me swimming with the ocean while delivering an important message >>>

The change this creates - when you do something you love is incredible! so go ahead and organise yours now!

See you on the happy side!!! :-D

We totally forgot about Australia day…. until we got reminded kindly by some people we were speaking with while we stayed in Rawson, Vic. I remember this day last year (2011), we gathered friends in our backyard and had a BBQ & Beer - as you do. and a slippery slide and we made a 'big thing' from it all - as you do. But since we're on an endless holiday everyday is like a holiday to us - hence why we forgot about Australia day.
Picture
Happy Aussie Day from the Freedom Family!
Although we forgot we had such a GREAT AUSTRALIA DAY near Arrarat, Vic at a beautiful ($5 per day) spot right on the lake where people where swimming, canoeing, boating & fishing & about 35 degrees when we arrived - a REAL Aussie feel to Australia day, thats for sure!
As soon as we got there we began to unpack while the kids played in the water…. BUT when we unpacked…..we had to pack up again….. watch the video below to find out why
So after that fun adventure :-) we had the most perfect spot right on the sandy banks.

We stayed 2 nights before we headed for The Grampians which was only 'down the road' (1 hour away to Halls Gap - where we were staying)

Wanna know what Australia Day means to us?

Don't delay it any longer - get out there and DO IT!!! get in contact with us if your read-y to LIVE your DREAM life! See you somewhere out there!

Its been SIX weeks since we have officially hit the road.... can you believe it!? We can hardly, actually I thought we had only been on the road for 4 weeks until Sam pointed out that it has been 6!!! For those of you who have been follow our journey before we began travelling you know that this was something that we prepared for consistently up until the lead up of our journeys, soon I want to share with you some of the 'hows' of creating and living our dream life so that YOU can do the same - so that you can enhance you & your family life for the better and start living your perfect life - what's yours?
From 'The Happiest Place on the Murray' to 'Happy Valley'
Picture
We travelled from northern Victoria to Alpine Country, funnily enough we stayed on 'the happiest place on the murray' and then (not knowingly) stayed in 'Happy Valley' near Mt Beauty (Vic). It's so amazing there as the towns are few and far between - if you check out a map you will see how vast the Alpine country is - actually how vast Victoria is in general. We travelled 4 hours where we begun in almost desert conditions (dry, hardly any rain) to magnificent scenery and abundance on water and excellent harvests! A-mazing!
The picture on the left is just 'some' of the beautiful scenery we experienced along our way.

We stayed at an excellent little Morgan's Bridge caravan & camping park which was opposite the icy creek/river (having the water come from the mountains), it was super fresh, crisp and delightful to be around. I just love the smell of fresh water.... so refreshing in more ways that one! We really enjoyed the 'smallness' of the park. It was really lovely to experience this since we have never really experienced parks on the 'smaller scale' before.
Watch our short video below of us driving out from Mt Beauty just to get a glimpse of how beautiful it really is!
As mentioned in the above video I DID jump into the icy river/creek in a very fashionable way! ;-) See my fun video below. We then had some fun with the kids down at the creek - they love exploring the rocks and Tate's favourite thing was pushing the play stroller into the water LOL.
Keeping refreshed in the icy Alpine Creek
Important things is Note during the 'Holiday Season'
Some interesting and important lessons that we have learnt during this 'holiday period' (Mid December through to end of January) is that most caravan parks on the coast(s) will not have vacancies. We planned on visited the east coast of Victoria from New Years onwards but have not been able to find a 'nice' spot to stay, and if we have the prices have been - what I would call ridiculous (and I'm a generous person!). As a travelling family we rely on parks to stay most of the time. In-fact even free camping sites are mostly full up too! For a while there we felt a bit stuck - we felt really disappointed and just wanted to keep living on the road - we were getting itchy feet big time!
So the lesson here is that if we are needing to stay in a caravan park over the holiday period(s) we need to book months in advance! On our part this actually requires planning, which we're realising how valuable planning is to our  lifestyle, as I (tara) need time to spend time on my business(s) as well as having family fun! HAVING A PLAN IS ESSENTIAL TO EVERYONES WELLBEING WHEN ON THE ROAD!
Next blog post will be more of what we saw on the Alpine Trail and you'll hear about our experience of driving through the mountains at night.
